Our Story. Many moons ago an emerging natural history cinematographer was invited to coffee by a non-profiteer interested in learning more about film and how to utilize it to promote the positive change-makers in the world. They fell in love, got married (awww) and continued supporting each other in their respective creative, media-making ventures. Seven years, 2 National Emmy awards and a suite of projects bolstering the efforts of the do-gooder later, they combined their industry know-how, ever-growing talents and passions and re-launched 3 Bears Media as a team.
The Team.
Dawson Dunning
Dawson specializes in cinematography in blue-chip natural history sequences and films. He has recently contributed content to high profile wildlife programs such as Frozen Planet II, Dynasties 2: Puma, Mammals, Planet Earth II, and Life Story for the BBC Natural History Unit, America the Beautiful for Disney +, and Earth at Night in Color and EarthSounds for Apple TV+, Wild Yellowstone for NatGeo WILD, Touching the Wild for PBS and many more. He has won 3 national cinematography EMMY awards, and been nominated for a 4th since 2012. Dawson received his MFA in Science and Natural History Filmmaking from Montana State University and his BS in Wildlife Biology from The University of Montana.
Kathryn Dunning
Kathryn is a professional science communicator who has been telling the stories of innovative scientific solutions to the world’s most pressing problems for over a decade. Most recently, she worked as the Director of Communications for the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Climate Adaptation Fund, a grant-making program made possible with the support of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Here, she has shared the actions conservation practitioners are taking to help species and habitats adapt to the uncertainties of climate change. In addition to sharpening her creative skills, she has been writing successful grant proposals for nearly 20 years and has a knack for strategy planning, stretching limited-budgets and getting the most out of every action taken.
